The Feed-in Tariff was implemented by the UK government on 1 April 2010. It is available for all parts of Britain except for Northern Ireland where a Feed-in Tariff is under review. In many other countries Feed-in Tariffs have encouraged people to start generating energy from renewable sources.
The Feed-in Tariff is a scheme that works very simply: All of the solar-generated electricity, whether self-consumed or exported, is purchased at a particular Feed-in Tariff (see table below) that will remain fixed for 25 years. A steady income from a solar PV system makes it a profitable purchase that can provide an annual return on investment of up to 10% of your initial outlay.

| ≤4kW (new build) | 37.8 | 25 |
| ≤4kW (retro fit) | 43.3 | 25 |
| >4kW – 10kW | 37.8 | 25 |
| >10kW – 50kW | 32.9 | 25 |
